Wishing that you and your family stay healthy during these challenging days. I very much look forward to meeting and talking with you when we are safe to see one another again in person.
Please allow me to introduce myself to you.
My West Hartford Roots
I am a life-long resident of West Hartford and have had the pleasure of serving as the president of my neighborhood association for the last 10 years.
I am a proud graduate of Conard High School, received my Bachelors Degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and my Masters Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, where I majored in Public Policy.
My late parents, Abe and Ria Haller, loved West Hartford. My dad was an insurance man and a decorated World War II veteran. He worked tirelessly and shared both a strong work ethic and family values with me. My mom was our family’s rock and nurturer. Together, their collective wisdom and patience with me knew no bounds (no matter how many rescue dogs I brought home!).
I am blessed with two wonderful children. My son, Yoni, who was born in Guatemala, is a sophomore at the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music and my daughter, Arielle, was born in Hartford and is an actor and acting coach in New York City.
For the past 43 years, I have had the privilege of serving as Executive Director of The Justice Education Center, a non-profit corporation that focuses on strengthening our communities, offering opportunities for youth, and improving our system of justice.
During my career, I have had the opportunity to staff task forces at the Connecticut General Assembly, and work closely with municipal and community leaders to improve the quality of life for our citizens. (Please see: www.justiceeducationcenter.org), if you would like to read more about the organization.
Why I Care So Much
I care deeply about West Hartford. Our 4th, 5th, and 6th voting districts are a vital part of our Town – each having their unique character, strength and vision for the future.
I often say, find me another town where grandparents, parents, and children can be found walking the Buena Vista golf course together, or swimming at our beautiful Cornerstone pool, joining in our annual Park Road Parade, shopping at our Home Design District, enjoying the variety of restaurants in Elmwood, playing on our Sterling Fields or at our Kennedy, Wolcott, and Beachland Parks, skating at our Veterans Skating Rink, or walking through our reservoirs and hiking trails. These many opportunities make West Hartford unique and very special, contributing greatly to the health of our children and families.
As I have begun meeting with our neighbors, I have heard a lot about your priorities, and they include:
- • Supporting our public safety
- • Creating new strategies to help our small businesses thrive
- • Continuing to meet the needs of our valued seniors
- • Providing our young people with the opportunities to be successful in the educational and career paths they choose
I hope to serve you and our 20th District to ensure that the quality of life for all of our residents will continue to grow for generations to come.
In the weeks ahead, I very much look forward to meeting you to learn more about your interests and concerns and am happy to come to any block parties or community gatherings you are having! Please feel free to contact me at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Your questions, concerns (and potential invites!) are most welcome.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. If I am fortunate to serve as your State Representative, I pledge to listen carefully and work tirelessly on your behalf. Hoping to meet you soon!
